The Women's Philanthropy Society

Do you have a female friend or colleague who spends time and energy on behalf of others, making our community a better place? She may be eligible for an award from the Women’s Philanthropy Society (WPS) of Cabell Huntington Hospital. Each year, two special awards are presented at the WPS luncheon, an event that honors Tri-State women who exemplify the heart, strength and compassion of all women. Nominations are accepted for these awards through February 15 of each year:

  • The Focus Award honors a pioneering spirit and achievements in volunteerism, women's health, community service, professional life and/or home and family.
  • The Kitty Hage Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to an individual whose life’s work has been dedicated to humanitarian efforts-- someone who has not sought recognition for her deeds, but has worked solely to better her community and the quality of life for others

To nominate someone for one of these awards, please complete the award nomination form and return it by February 15 to the CHH Foundation at 1340 Hal Greer Boulevard, Huntington, WV 25701. Recipients will be notified and awards will be presented at the Women’s Philanthropy Society’s luncheon.

Join the WPS & attend the luncheon

The goal of the Women's Philanthropy Society is twofold:

  • to honor outstanding women of the Tri-State and
  • to encourage women’s philanthropy,

and the premise is simple and powerful. Individually, our donations may not create change, but combining our individual donations with the donations of others creates a larger gift, allowing each of us to be a philanthropist and make a positive impact in our community.

Proceeds from the annual WPS luncheon support women’s and children’s causes at Cabell Huntington Hospital, and each year, WPS members vote to determine which cause to support. For example, in 2014, members of the Women’s Philanthropy Society voted to donate nearly $30,000 to help send local children to Camp Dream Street, which offers camping experiences to children affected with chronic or life-threatening illness. In 2015, the WPS donation paid for rocking chairs to help comfort babies for every room of the Neonatal Transition Unit.
