Cabell Huntington Hospital is celebrating the first anniversary for CAREConnect, the $20 million electronic medical record system implemented last August. At 11 a.m. and noon today, Cabell Huntington employees will gather on the hospital's front lawn for a large group photograph to commemorate this important event for the hospital and its patients. Later in the day, at 3 p.m., the staff will be honored for their work in implementing this state-of-the-art system with a reception and awards ceremony.

CAREConnect, designed by physicians, nurses and hospital staff, is used each day to elevate the quality of health care at Cabell Huntington Hospital. This advanced clinical system has streamlined the work of physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals through the use of electronic medical records that track a patient's health history over time and across the hospital and its outreach facilities.

The benefits of CAREConnect include:

  • Enhancing patient outcomes
  • Improving patient safety
  • Standardizing communication of patient information
  • Reducing redundancy of documentation
  • Increasing real-time access to data
  • Creating a single electronic record
  • Integrating evidenced-based medicine

The staff is looking forward to additional phases of implementation that will occur later this year and in 2009.
