Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center hosts Women's Health Screening

The Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center is hosting a free women's health screening on Friday, January 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Women over 18 are invited to this health event that includes a free pelvic exam and a clinical breast exam. Free pap smears are offered as well for those who qualify. Appointments are required.
Exams will be conducted under the direction of Gerard Oakley, MD, gynecologic oncologist, along with physicians from the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center, Cabell Huntington Hospital and the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. Cabell Huntington Hospital’s laboratory and cytologists will process the pap smears, and pathologists from University Physicians and Surgeons Pathology Services will read the pap smears at no charge.
January is National Cervical Health Awareness month, and representatives will be available to assist in identifying patients who qualify for the West Virginia Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program, which is a comprehensive public health program that helps uninsured or underinsured women gain access to breast and cervical cancer screening services. Reaching Out, an ovarian cancer awareness program through the West Virginia Comprehensive Cancer Program and the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, will also provide support and information at this screening.
