The Respiratory Care Department at Cabell Huntington Hospital recently earned Quality Respiratory Care Recognition from the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC). The recognition is part of a national program aimed at helping patients and families make informed decisions about the quality of respiratory care services in their area. Cabell Huntington Hospital is now listed as a Quality Respiratory Care Provider at www.yourlunghealth.org. In making its decision, the AARC evaluated Cabell Huntington's staffing for pulmonology and respiratory therapy and the types of services provided by the more than 40 employees providing respiratory care at the hospital.

"Cabell Huntington Hospital remains on the leading edge in the care we provide for patients with respiratory disease - from the tiniest babies with immature lungs to geriatric patients suffering the effects of lifelong smoking," said Hoyt Burdick, MD, vice president and chief medical officer at Cabell Huntington. "This national recognition by the AARC just confirms the quality we know is present in the respiratory and critical care services delivered at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Some examples include new services as well as existing programs such the Lung Nodule Clinic, certified sleep laboratory, certified pulmonary function laboratory and cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation programs."

According to the AARC, a hospital that receives Quality Respiratory Care Recognition has met strict safety and quality standards related to the care provided by qualified respiratory therapists.
