Cabell Huntington Hospital offers the community the following tips to prepare for a visit to the hospital Emergency Department due to flu-like symptoms:

  • When you arrive, go directly to the information desk and notify hospital staff if you are having shortness of breath or chest pains.
  • If you do not suffer from those serious symptoms, please wash your hands using free hand sanitizer, sign in and take a mask to help prevent the spread of germs.
  • Patients in the Emergency Department are asked to remain patient and will be evaluated by medical staff as soon as possible. Please do not hesitate to ask questions of staff, but remember that you may have to wait to see a physician.

In addition, Cabell Huntington Hospital has released a guide based on recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control for people with concerns about flu symptoms and how to care for those who become ill.

The easy-to-use guide is available for free download. The information is provided by the Centers for Disease Control and is also available, along with additional information, at www.flu.gov.

The Centers for Disease Control recommends frequent hand washing and proper cough etiquette, including coughing or sneezing into your shirt sleeve instead of into your hands as primary ways to help prevent the spread of the flu virus.
