CHH Prostate Screening Will Feature Demonstration of Advanced Robotic Surgery Equipment
Last updated: 08/24/2006
Men who participate in free prostate exams offered by Cabell Huntington Hospital and the Hanshaw Geriatric Center will get a sneak peek at the hospital's new daVinci Surgical System, a state-of-the-art robotic platform designed to enable complex minimally invasive surgery with greater precision.
The free prostate exams will be offered Monday, September 18 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Hanshaw Geriatric Center, which is located just inside the entrance to the Marshall Medical Center on the campus of Cabell Huntington Hospital.
The exams will consist of a digital rectal exam and a prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood test if the physician deems one is necessary.
Participants may watch a demonstration of the robotic surgical equipment while they wait to see a physician for the exam. The equipment used for the demonstration is identical to the equipment located in the Surgery Department at Cabell Huntington Hospital.
Cabell Huntington Hospital is the first hospital in the Huntington area and the only medical facility within a 120-mile radius to acquire the system. Together with the Marshall University School of Medicine, the hospital has brought to Huntington James Jensen, MD, a urologist who has performed several hundred robotic prostatectomies with the da Vinci Surgical System.
In addition to Jensen, urologists Louis Molina, MD; Rhendra Jain, MD; and Tara Sharma, MD, are volunteering their time to provide the free exams.
No appointment is necessary. Exams will be performed on a first come, first served basis. Participants arriving after 8:30 a.m. are encouraged to take advantage of the free valet parking service. For more information about the screening, call Senior Services at (304) 526-2695.
