Cabell Huntington Hospital President and Chief Executive Officer Brent A. Marsteller has been awarded the American Hospital Association's (AHA) Grassroots Champion Award for 2010. Marsteller and 51 other hospital leaders from across the country were awarded the AHA's Grassroots Champion Award, which was created to recognize those hospital leaders who most effectively educate elected officials on how major issues affect the hospital's vital role in the community, who have done an exemplary job in broadening the base of community support for the hospital and who are tireless advocates for hospitals and their patients, according to a news release from the AHA.
"We depend upon strong local voices to help tell the story of hospitals as cornerstones of the communities they serve," said Rich Umbdenstock, AHA President and CEO, in the news release. "This award is a small token of our appreciation for the hard work and dedication of these individuals to improving health and health care in America."
Marsteller has played a major role in sharing the resources and mission of Cabell Huntington Hospital with Tri-State residents through encouraging healthy lifestyles, supporting improved nutrition and providing free or reduced-cost health screenings and education for the community. He has also been an active voice at the state level in recent years, promoting health and wellness and improving access to quality health care throughout the state while serving as past chairman of the West Virginia Hospital Association.
