Cabell Huntington Hospital's Health Information Management Department was ranked among the nation's top 200 hospitals for its coding accuracy in a report released by Ingenix, a leading health information company. Cabell Huntington Hospital was ranked 28th in the category for minor teaching hospitals.

The hospital was identified as a top performer in its peer group and was recognized for setting a high standard for effective coding and documentation practices. Ingenix analyzed 3,165 hospitals in the 2005 Medicare Provider Analysis and Review file and identified 50 top performers in four peer groups that achieved the best combination of complete and compliant coding.

"We are honored to be listed within the Top 200 Coding Hospitals in the U.S. report," said Larry Ball, director of Health Information Management for Cabell Huntington Hospital. "The report recognizes our effort to engage in medical coding practices that are accurate and compliant with government billing regulations."

Cabell Huntington Hospital is the only hospital in West Virginia to be recognized in the report.

"Accurate coding is important to patients, hospitals and insurance providers," Ball said, "It is important to patients and insurance providers that they are being billed accurately and it's important to hospitals to be paid appropriately for care provided. Our goal is to do the right thing for everyone, and this report reflects our commitment to that."
