B. Joseph Touma, MD
B. Joseph Touma, MD, medical director of the Cabell Huntington Hospital Balance Center, has been appointed to a three-year term on the American Academy of Otolaryngology Equilibrium Committee. The committee studies the disease process of equilibrium disturbances and the methods of evaluating equilibrium in patients. It also evaluates the instruments used by physicians and other clinical staff for diagnosis and determining a course of treatment.
"I'm honored to receive this appointment to this committee," Touma said. "Diagnosing and treating disturbances in equilibrium is sometimes challenging. Being part of a national committee that studies the methods used by physicians around the country and sharing information with my peers allows me to keep current in managing these patients in our region. Furthermore, guidelines and recommendations regarding these issues are given to our Academy from this committee."
Touma is a fellowship-trained neurotologist, or an ear and balance specialist, with River Cities Ear, Nose and Throat Specialists in Huntington and Ashland. He is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.
