ECCC to Offer Cervical Cancer Screening
Last updated: 01/03/2008

There are about 12,000 new cases and 3,700 deaths from cervical cancer each year (National Cancer Institute)
The Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center is offering a free cervical cancer screening Friday, January 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Under the direction of Gerard Oakley, MD, gynecologic oncologist, physicians will perform Pap smears and abdominal examinations. Cabell Huntington Hospital's laboratory and cytologists will process the Pap smears, and pathologists from University Physicians and Surgeons Pathology Services will read the smears at no charge.
Representatives from Ebenezer Medical Outreach will be available to assist in identifying patients who qualify for the West Virginia Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program, which is a comprehensive public health program that helps uninsured or underinsured women gain access to breast and cervical cancer screening services.
Women who do not get regular Pap smears or have gynecologists or family physicians are encouraged to call to make an appointment. People with questions about the screening or who want to make an appointment can call (304) 526-2379.
