Cabell Huntington Hospital recently added MRI-guided breast biopsy technology to its tools in the fight against breast cancer. For patients with specific indications, a procedure using the MRI-guided breast biopsy can be used. By adding a tool to MRI equipment already in use at the hospital, physicians at Cabell Huntington Hospital and at the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center now have access to a cutting-edge diagnostic tool.

The MRI-guided breast biopsy performed using the SenoRx EnCor® system is a technique beneficial for a limited number of patients. Previously, physicians had to refer patients to medical centers hours away for this type of procedure.

The Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center already offers digital mammography and ultrasound-guided breast biopsies.

"This provides us with a way to further examine potential cancers," said Tim Martin, director of Radiology at Cabell Huntington Hospital. "This is another state-of-the-art tool that our doctors have to best treat patients."

The procedures will be performed through the Department of Radiology at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Breast surgeon Jack Traylor, MD, said the addition of the MRI-guided tool means that when such a procedure is needed, patients can remain close to home in familiar surroundings and receive the latest treatment.
