Perinatal Center Moves to New Location
Last updated: 05/10/2006
Cabell Huntington Hospital's Perinatal Center has moved into a newer, larger building behind the hospital on the corner of 13th Avenue and Elm Street. The size of the center will increase from 1,400 square feet to 4,320 square feet. The additional space will provide room for four ultrasound rooms, each equipped with state-of-the-art 4D ultrasound technology; new, spacious and comfortable waiting rooms; and the Perinatal Diabetes Center so that both services will now be offered under one roof.
Under the direction of Shailini Singh, MD, and David Chaffin, MD, both maternal-fetal medicine specialists with the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, the center offers a unique, one-stop comprehensive center for maternal-fetal evaluation and treatment for high-risk pregnancies.
"We are proud to offer the region's most advanced and comprehensive perinatal services," Singh said. "And now, with our new, expanded facility, we are happy to be able to provide patients with an even higher level of care and service."
The physicians and staff of the Perinatal Center take care of women with high-risk pregnancies, including those with maternal diseases like diabetes, hypertension or premature labor. The center also offers comprehensive pre-conception counseling, non-invasive and invasive prenatal diagnostic procedures, prenatal screenings for birth defects, 4D ultrasound and fetal echocardiograms by ultrasound, minimally invasive fetal surgery and a comprehensive prematurity prevention program.
Patients are referred to the center by their OB/GYN, but for more information, patients may call (304) 526-2124.
Prenatal Testing Available
State-of-the-art prenatal testing and diagnosis, often only found in larger metropolitan areas, are now available at Cabell Huntington Hospital's Perinatal Center.
"There are new tests available to women now that are less invasive and less expensive," said Shailini Singh, MD, maternal-fetal medicine specialist at the center. "Today's technology allows us to diagnose a number of chromosomal and structural problems in utero. In some cases we can provide minimally invasive fetal therapy for some of the structural defects."
