Cabell Huntington Hospital’s Senior Services Department is sponsoring this community service initiative to help protect seniors, who are at a higher risk for complications caused by flu.

Joy Pelfrey, RN, MSN, FNP, NEA-BC, Director of Senior Services

“It is estimated that in the U.S., 90 percent of flu-related deaths and more than 60 percent of flu-related hospitalizations each year occur in people 65 years and older,” said Joy Pelfrey, RN, MSN, FNP, NEA-BC, Director of Senior Services at CHH. "Many people over 65 are caregivers for their grandchildren, and children are at a higher risk for flu-related complications or deaths. The flu is very contagious and can be passed to someone else before you know you have it. Getting the flu shot can help keep people healthy, not only yourself, but your loved ones and those you come in contact with on a daily basis.”

No appointment is necessary for flu shots. For more information, please call the Family Medical Center location nearest your home:
