Cabell Huntington Hospital now offers computer terminals and staff assistance to help patients and visitors as they sign up for health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace.
The hospital is offering its Enroll Tri-State program to ease the enrollment process for uninsured patients and visitors who may qualify for Medicaid or a private insurance program offered through the Health Insurance Marketplace. To support sign-ups, enrollment terminals are conveniently located in the Cabell Huntington Hospital lobby and in the Emergency Department waiting area at kiosks marked with Enroll Tri-State signs. Staff will be available during regular business hours for those who need assistance completing the application.
The Health Insurance Marketplace opened October 1 as a centralized health insurance enrollment tool for individuals, families and businesses that do not have health insurance. Depending on income, the Marketplace will either point enrollees to Medicaid or private insurance. Enrollees may receive a tax credit to cover part of their premium expenses if their income is below 400% of the Federal Poverty Line. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is encouraging providers to assist in the efforts of outreach and enrollment.
According to federal government guidelines, to be eligible for coverage in 2014 and not receive a tax penalty, applicants must enroll by December 31, 2013. Applicants may still be eligible for coverage in 2014, as long as they enroll by the end of the open enrollment process ending March 31, 2014, but they may be subject to a 2013 tax penalty.
