Khalil T. Abulatifa, MD, has joined the Cabell Huntington Hospital hospitalist staff, which provides care to patients while they are in the hospital.
Dr. Abulatifa earned his medical degree from the University of Jordan in Amman, Jordan and completed his residency training in internal medicine at Seton Hall University at Trinitas Hospital in New Jersey and at Jordan University Hospital in Amman, Jordan.
Hospitalists are different from other physicians because they do not have a practice in an office; instead, they dedicate their careers to caring for hospitalized patients. Hospital-based medicine is a relatively new program that was developed in response to changes in health care. Because family doctors cannot always leave their office practices to visit patients in the hospital, the hospitalist simply serves as a partner for your doctor, supervising your care while you are hospitalized. Cabell Huntington’s hospitalists are available to care for patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week and spend most of their time admitting, managing, discharging and consulting for hospitalized patients. They help manage patients through the continuum of hospital care, often seeing patients in the ER and following them through their hospital stay.
