The sports medicine screenings provided each Saturday at Cabell Huntington Hospital by Marshall University Department of Orthopedic Surgery physicians will take place this week at the Family Health and Fitness Expo at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 16. Marshall University Sports Medicine Chief Dr. Charles Giangarra will be on hand to provide free medical advice and evaluations for people concerned about a sports-related injury. Regular screenings will resume on the Cabell Huntington Hospital campus on October 23 at 8:30 a.m.
Additionally, Cabell Huntington Hospital will provide a limited number of free flu shots on a first come, first served basis. A brief registration form must be completed, but there will be no charge for the vaccine. Cabell-Huntington Health Department officials will also host a flu shot clinic at the same time.
Educators and dietitians from Marshall University's Diabetes Center will be on hand to answer questions about diabetes and to check blood glucose levels. Additionally, Cabell Huntington Hospital's Back and Spine Center will provide assessments for back pain, and representatives from the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center will be on hand to help women determine if they qualify for a free screening mammogram for breast cancer.
