Emergency & Trauma Services

When seconds count, Cabell Huntington Hospital is prepared, with one of the most advanced emergency and trauma centers in the region. The country's first Level II joint trauma center is staffed around the clock with physician specialists, anesthetists and surgeons ready for any emergency. The staff works hard to ensure that patients receive lifesaving medical care quickly and effectively.
Cabell Huntington Hospital is just minutes from I-64 and can be easily reached by ambulance (see Patient Transport). For patients needing faster emergency transportation, a helicopter from HealthNet Aeromedical Services is available to transport patients to the Emergency Room door. Through radio communication with a Medical Command Center on the sixth floor of the hospital, a trauma team is prepared and ready to care for the injured patient. The helipad is right outside the entrance to the Emergency Department, shaving precious minutes off transportation time and getting the patient into the capable hands of the Emergency Department staff as soon as possible.
The Emergency Department is staffed by specially trained physicians and nurses who are dedicated to caring for people who require immediate medical assistance. Next to the Emergency Department is the ImmediateCare Center, a treatment area for people who need treatment for less serious illnesses or injuries. Patients can be seen in ImmediateCare from 8 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week.
To better serve our patients, the Emergency Department has been renovated and expanded, with a large, comfortable waiting area. The Registration Department has expanded the number of registration stations to four. The Emergency Department now has 30 exam rooms and five trauma rooms, increasing the square footage from approximately 15,000 square feet to 30,000, and the unit is in close proximity to radiology and cardiology services should the need arise. The ImmediateCare area, which handles non-emergent walk-in patients, has been expanded to ten rooms.
