Mary H. Hodges Joint Replacement Center

Because of the generosity of Churchill and Mary Hodges, and to honor Mary for being an exemplary patient, the Cabell Huntington Hospital Foundation named the hospital's specially designed and decorated joint replacement center the Mary H. Hodges Joint Replacement Center at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

Mary and Churchill Hodges have both been patients at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Both have experienced the services of the physicians and staff, and because they appreciate the expertise available at Cabell Huntington Hospital, they chose to make a legacy gift to the hospital.

Mary Hodges came to Cabell Huntington Hospital because of serious complications from knee replacement surgery at another facility. Through the expertise of infection control specialist Murray Batt, MD, of University Physicians and Surgeons and Ali Oliashirazi, MD, chairman of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery for Marshall University's Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine and medical director of the Cabell Huntington Hospital Joint Replacement Center, Mary's knee - and her life - was saved.

Some of the credit for Mary's recovery, however, goes to Mary herself. "Mary is the ideal patient because she had a strong desire to get better and was willing to work with the team to make the best outcome possible," Oliashirazi said.

Mary Henderson Hodges graduated from Huntington High School, attended Marshall University and is retired from AAA Travel Services. Churchill graduated from the Kentucky Military Institute and received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry and his master's degree in Geography. He was a biology teacher at Huntington High School and Director of Purchasing for the Cabell County School System. He was president of the board for the Huntington YMCA and a board member of Huntington Museum of Art.

The Hodges were honored at a gala reception hosted by the hospital and attended by hundreds of family and friends. They were honored for their generosity, and the newly named center was unveiled.
