Although we each have different responsibilities, every staff member at the Center for Surgical Weight Control shares the same goal— the success of our patients. We are here to educate and support you and to serve as a resource as you continue your weight-loss journey.

Blaine Nease, MD, FACS, Bariatric Surgeon

Blaine Nease, MD, FACS

Dr. Nease performs the full range of surgical weight-control procedures, including gastric bypass, adjustable gastric band, duodenal switch and sleeve gastrectomy. In addition to his full-time surgical responsibilities, he serves as the medical and surgical director of the Center for Surgical Weight Control. Dr. Nease sees all patients during their pre- and post-operative visits and conducts all educational seminars.

Sheila Tuttle, Program Manager 

Your support team is led by Program Manager Sheila Tuttle. Sheila attended Marshall University and went on to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from West Liberty State University in West Liberty, WV. She has worked in the field of bariatric surgery for several years, not only in practice management but in launching new bariatric surgery programs at hospitals and medical centers. Her focus is on growth and development while ensuring that the highest quality of care is continuously being delivered. Sheila oversees the program’s accreditation process for being named a Center of Excellence by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and a Blue Distinction Plus Program for providing proven expertise in delivering specialty care.

“My goal is to ensure the highest standards of care are met for our patients and to provide the resources and aftercare for them to achieve optimal health and sustained weight loss,” says Sheila.

MichelleTooley, FNP-BC, Clinical Coordinator

Michelle is a certified nurse practitioner who provides the necessary follow-up care for optimal long-term success after surgery. She offers comprehensive assessment in order to best guide patients in maintaining their weight loss. Michelle is responsible for providing education to pre-operative patients as well as relevant hospital staff, with a focus on patient safety.  She serves as the liaison between the Center for Surgical Weight Control and the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation Quality Improvement Program and ensures that standards are being met.  She is not only one of the leaders for our monthly support group, but a patient herself!

"I know the challenges that come with being overweight, losing weight and maintaining the weight loss, all the while celebrating the victories of healthy living.  Assisting our patients and guiding them along their journey to a healthier life, gives me great fulfillment.”

Marsha Copley, RD, LD, Registered Dietitian 

Marsha Copley, RD, LD

As our bariatric dietitian, Marsha provides comprehensive nutritional education and an array of services that support each of our patients. She provides in-depth counseling and guidance before surgery and continues to meet with the patients in the post operative period.  Long-term follow-up care is so important for optimal outcomes, and Marsha plays an integral role in aftercare.  She is one of the leaders for our monthly support group and she is dedicated to helping every patient accomplish their goals.

Marsha earned her bachelor of science degree in dietetics and went on to complete a dietetic internship at Marshall Universit y in Huntington, WV. She is a registered dietitian and has worked in bariatric nutrition at Cabell Huntington Hospital since 2002. Marsha has been an associate member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery since 2003, and she holds membership with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Weight Management Practice Group of the Association.  She is also a member of the Obesity Action Coalition.

Jackie Stanley, Bariatric Insurance Coordinator

As a gastric bypass patient herself, Jackie personally understands the patient's perspective. After all the required documentation has been received, Jackie will work with the patients and their insurance companies to obtain pre-authorization for their selected bariatric procedure. She answers patients’ insurance questions and schedules all surgeries. Jackie received her education at Rio Grande College in Ohio.  She brings many years of experience in the medical field.  After havingbariatric surgery herself, she was motivated to apply her skills and personal experience to guide others through our program.

“I’m not only the insurance coordinator, but I am also a patient," says Jackie. "Dr. Nease was remarkable throughout the entire process and he continues to show such compassion and genuine concern for my overall success and well being. I now get to share my passion and experience firsthand with our patients here at our program, while helping them through the multiple levels of insurance approval.  I truly do understand the importance of ensuring the process goes as smoothly as possible.”

Crystal Pauley, Bariatric Insurance Coordinator II 

Vicki Dailey

Crystal is responsible for maintaining the MBSAQIP database, one of the many requirements our program fulfills to maintain our designation as a Center of Excellence by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the American College of Surgeons. Her other duties include pre-authorization and ordering of radiological tests and procedures that pre-operative patients need to help complete insurance requirements and/or post-operative patients need for comprehensive follow-up care. Crystal earned her bachelor's degree in healthcare administration from Ohio University and has worked in health care for over a decade.

“We have a team that fosters a caring attitude that promotes a healthy lifestyle for the patient," says Crystal. "We are here from the beginning for the patient; not just during surgery but throughout the lifelong aftercare.  I love going to work every day knowing I am one of their team members.” 

Charlotte King, Bariatric Patient Intake Coordinator

Charlotte walks each patient through the initial phase of the surgical weight-control program. She pre-qualifies and registers patients for educational seminars and continues to work with them to collect all of the documentation required by their insurance companies and our program. Charlotte is also an adjustable gastric band patient.

“I am the first contact our patients have with our program, and it is so rewarding to follow them through and to know that I had a part in their pursuit of a healthier future,” says Charlotte.

Carissa Salyers, Receptionist/Scheduler  

Carissa will be the first to greet you when you arrive at our Center. She will help you through the registration process and ensure your information on file is up to date and she will accept co-pays. Carissa schedules all appointments and will direct calls to the appropriate person for action. She attended Ashland Community College and Ashland Technical College and has worked in medical offices as clerical support for nearly 20 years.
