Physicians Performing Robotic Surgery
Surgeons can perform complex surgical procedures through just a few small incisions, using a high-definition 3D vision system and tiny wristed instruments that bend and rotate far more than the human wrist. Robotic surgery typically results in smaller incisions, less pain, a shorter hospital stay, a faster return to normal daily activities and the potential for better clinical outcomes.
The da Vinci® Xi™ System is the newest addition to the Robotics Surgical Center. It uses the latest in surgical and robotic technologies and is beneficial for performing several complex surgeries.
Nease, Darren B., MD
Blaine Nease, MD, FACS, earned his bachelor's degree and attended medical school at The Ohio State University. He completed his residency at the University of South Florida where he received extensive advanced laparoscopic and bariatric surgical training. Dr. Nease is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, and the American Society of Bariatric Physicians. He has served on the Bariatric Review Committee of the Surgical Review Corporation and is the first to set national standards for Centers of Excellence in Bariatric Surgery.
Munie, Semeret T., MD
Semeret T.Munie, MD, is a fellowship-trained bariatric surgeon. She provides minimally invasive, comprehensive weight loss surgery for patients with morbid obesity. Her fellowship training also includes minimally invasive anti-reflux and foregut surgery as well as repair of simple and complex abdominal wall hernias. She has additional fellowship training in surgical critical care.

James C. Jensen, MD, FACS, Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center and Marshall Surgery, is a national leader in robotic surgery, specializes in robotic surgery for urologic cancer, with a particular emphasis on prostate cancer. He was the first urologist to perform robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery in Utah, and now has performed over a thousand robotic radical prostatectomies, many of them at the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center. According to industry statistics, he is among the top 20 robotic surgeons in the world. Patients have come from as far as Alaska to have him perform their surgeries.
