The Department of Pastoral Care is committed to maintaining the highest standard and quality of spiritual care and services for patients, families and staff.
The Department of Pastoral Care at Cabell Huntington Hospital recognizes the inherent dignity and worth of each person as we offer emotional support, spiritual guidance, and comfort to patients, families of patients and hospital staff.
Chaplains visit with patients and visitors throughout the hospital on a regular basis. Anyone may request a chaplain to visit for emotional support whether this is because a patient is lonely, experiencing anxiety or has received an unexpected diagnosis. A chaplain is available 8 a.m. until midnight every day. You can request a chaplain visit through any staff member.
Chaplains are available in house 8 a.m. until midnight by dialing extension 3730 from the hospital telephone. If using an outside line, call the hospital at 304.526.2000 and ask for extension 3730. To reach our children’s chaplain, call extension 2678. Between midnight and 8 a.m., our clinical care team is asked to utilize Doc Halo to request the chaplain on call. On-call chaplains ordinarily respond to requests for traumas or end of life care.
The Pastoral Care Office is located on the ground floor down the hall from the administration offices.
Cabell Huntington Hospital has a chapel available for quiet solitude or prayer. The chapel is located on the first floor at the top of the stairs near the registration desk. A prayer rug and kneeling bench are available for use. There is also a notebook for writing prayer requests. The chapel is always open, and people of all faiths are welcome.
A daily inspiring quote will be announced over the hospital PA system at 8:15 a.m. and 8:15 p.m. These encouraging messages are also available via email upon request by emailing PastoralCare@chhi.org.
Need a prayer? Call 304.526.2695 for a recorded prayer. If you have specific need you would like the chaplains to pray about, you may call 304.526.2000, extension 3730 to speak to the chaplain. You may also email PastoralCare@chhi.org to request prayer. As always, a chaplain is available to visit patients, family, or staff within the hospital for an in-person prayer.

Although the Employee Assistance Program is not an initiative of the Pastoral Care Department, we want to make employees aware of the confidential short term counseling available at no cost to all employees, employees’ spouses and dependents to help effectively manage life's challenges. The EAP is also a confidential resource for consultation to help you navigate any difficult situation that may arise. Interested in a department specific workshop, debriefing or other team support? They provide those services as well.
