Joint Replacement
The Joint Replacement Program at Cabell Huntington Hospital was established to help relieve your pain, increase your mobility and improve your quality of life. From initial consultation to surgery, recovery and after rehabilitation, every step of this comprehensive program has been streamlined to make the process as smooth and easy for patients as possible. As a result, the Joint Replacement Program:
- consistently earns high patient satisfaction scores
- is the only hospital in West Virginia and the Tri-State region to be named to America’s 100 Best Hospitals by Healthgrades.
- has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Advanced Certification for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement. CHH is the only hospital in the Tri-State region to obtain this designation.
- has earned continuous national recognition from Healthgrades
The program is directed by Ali Oliashirazi, MD, Professor and Chair of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. For Dr. Ali, academic excellence and the highest quality orthopedic care go hand in hand. The internationally acclaimed surgeon has cultivated a team of orthopedic surgeons that is unparalleled throughout the region, both in knowledge and in skill.
The joint replacement team believes wholeheartedly in educating each patient about the procedure, recovery and rehabilitation. “We’ve found that the more that the patients and their families know about the operation, the immediate post-operative period and the late post-operative period, the better they will do,” Ali said.
Key Components of the Program
- an extensive preoperative educational meeting to lay out expectations before, during and after surgery as well as to explain the recovery process.
- a highly qualified and dedicated team of orthopedic physicians and surgeons
- the latest minimally invasive surgical techniques and computer-assisted robotic joint replacement technology

Revisions
The Joint Replacement Program also welcomes patients with joint replacement problems who require additional surgery for infections, fractures around components or to replace aging components. These often complicated surgeries are performed by Drs. Bullock, Caughran, and Cheung.
