Cabell Huntington Hospital Hosts Open House for New Pulmonary Rehabilitation Facility

Marshall Health Network’s Cabell Huntington Hospital recently welcomed health care providers and community members to an open house celebrating the relocation and enhancement of its pulmonary rehabilitation program. Held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, the event showcased the new facility in the SMART Center, located in the hospital atrium on the ground floor. This strategic move brings pulmonary rehabilitation services to a more accessible location, now outfitted with advanced technology to enhance patient care and recovery.

The Cabell Huntington Hospital Pulmonary Rehabilitation Department celebrated their new facility and state-of-the-art equipment made possible by the hospital's Auxiliary.

Attendees had the chance to tour the upgraded facility, meet the experienced team behind the program, and explore new, state-of-the-art equipment funded by the Cabell Huntington Hospital Auxiliary. The specialized equipment, including two Star Trac Treadmills, an Octane Airdyne Bike, two Nustep recumbent steppers, and two Sci Fit UBE (Upper Body Ergometers), is designed to provide patients with a comprehensive aerobic workout. Each machine focuses on building overall strength and endurance, essential for patients managing chronic lung conditions.

“The new pulmonary rehab facility enables us to provide more convenient and comprehensive care for patients with chronic lung conditions or lung health issues,” said Lois Adkins, clinical exercise physiologist. “We’re excited to see how this state-of-the-art space will support patients as they work to improve their lung health and quality of life.”

Karri Schultz-Britt, clinical exercise physiologist, emphasized the importance of pulmonary rehabilitation for those facing respiratory challenges. “Pulmonary rehab isn’t just about exercise—it’s about empowering patients with the tools they need to breathe easier, stay active, and manage their conditions effectively. This facility has everything we need to create a supportive and therapeutic environment.”

Lois Adkins, clinical exercise physiologist, shows off the new equipment to Coni Mays, president of the Cabell Huntington Hospital Auxiliary.

The Cabell Huntington Hospital Auxiliary played a key role in funding the facility upgrades. Coni Mays, president of the Cabell Huntington Hospital Auxiliary, expressed her excitement about the impact this new facility will have on the patients’ experience. “Supporting this renovation means that we’re helping to bring essential services to a more accessible space, making a real difference in the lives of our community members,” Mays said. “We’re proud to be part of this project.”

The event was a valuable opportunity for health care professionals and potential patients alike to learn more about the benefits of pulmonary rehabilitation.
