Marshall Health Network - Hoops Family Children’s Hospital and Marshall Health Network Foundations introduced six pediatric patients as the 2026 United for Hoops Junior Captains during a special Draft Day event Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Marshall University Medical Center.

In partnership with United Bank and Marshall University Athletics, United for Hoops raises funds and awareness for Hoops Family Children’s Hospital while giving each Junior Captain the opportunity to represent the children’s hospital at a designated Marshall University home football game and take part in special game-day experiences.

The 2026 Junior Captains and their designated games are:

  • Jayce Smith - Sept. 12 | Middle Tennessee State University
  • Ryan Fullerton - Sept. 26 | Gardner-Webb University
  • Braxton Chatterton - Oct. 10 | Coastal Carolina University
  • Journey Madden - Oct. 20 | University of South Alabama
  • Russell and Anna Ruth Johnson - Nov. 14 | Appalachian State University
  • Kaylee Mollett - Nov. 21 | Georgia State University

Throughout the football season, each Junior Captain will lead an individual fundraising campaign benefiting Hoops Family Children’s Hospital. Supporters may make a gift in honor of their favorite Junior Captain at mhnfoundations.org/unitedforhoops.

“United for Hoops is a meaningful way to celebrate our Junior Captains while connecting the community to the important work of Hoops Family Children’s Hospital,” said Matt James, vice president of Marshall Health Network Foundations. “The support generated through this program helps strengthen the programs and resources available to children and families across our region, and we’re grateful to United Bank, Marshall Athletics and everyone who supports these remarkable kids throughout the season.”

“United for Hoops reflects what can happen when a community comes together around its children,” said Emily Bartram, market president, United Bank. “We are proud to support the Junior Captains and their families while helping raise awareness and resources for Hoops Family Children’s Hospital.”
