Christie Eastman, MA, LPC, NCC, ALPS ICEEFT Certified Emotionally Focused Therapy and Supervisor Master Accelerated Resolution Therapist and Trainer

Counseling Center Manager

"I love working collaboratively with people to care for and heal what is hurting in their lives. Each person is unique, so together we find a way that fits best for them. Everyone brings their own strengths, experiences, needs, and goals to therapy. My part is to bring caring, skill, and experience, as well as my own humanity, to join with my clients on their healing journeys.

I provide therapy for adults suffering with depression, anxiety, grief and loss, work problems, childhood and adult trauma, relational problems, marriage/couple distress, family problems, parenting issues, unexpected life events, spiritual confusion & distress, and identity concerns.

For relational (and “attachment”) healing, I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). Too often, painful experiences have damaged our belief that we are worthy of love, good enough, or that we can trust others to be there for us. As an EFT therapist, I work with couples and families toward restoring what has been lost, and developing or restoring secure bonds of love and trust. In situations where restoring the relationship is not possible or beneficial, I use ART (see below) and other approaches to help my clients restore belief in their own value, and to learn how to build secure relationships with safe people now and in the future.

I use Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) to address problems that have kept people held back in important areas of their lives. Some of the conditions I use ART to treat are: PTSD, single-incident traumas, relational injuries, OCD, phobias, panic attacks, test anxiety & other performance anxieties, depression, chronic pain, and performance improvement for people experiencing reduced physical functioning due to a medical condition.

In addition to the above, although I do not hold certifications in these, I am also an Internal Family Systems (IFS) informed therapist, and provide faith-based services on request.

Jaimie Armentrout, M.A., Licensed Psychologist, CEAP, Accelerated Resolution Therapist

Supervisor of Psychology & Child Services

"I am a licensed psycholigist, and I consider myself a cognitive-behavioral psychotherapist. I enjoy helping people process the challenging times and moments in their lives and discover new ways to perceive them. Finding a connection between thoughts and behaviors and how they impact emotional well-being along with learning and developing different ways to approach them can empower one to live a more authentic and fulfilling life. This allows one to define that moment rather than that moment defining them. I love working with children, adolescents and adults because each age offers an invaluable perspective on life and its inner workings.

I specialize in bereavement counseling and allowing people to process their losses while providing education regarding different types of grief responses. This allows them to see the normalcy in their grief despite it feeling so abnormal. I take pride in helping these individuals with implementing ways they can transition into their new or different sense of normal more realistically while being present with their emotions.

I take an integrative approach in looking at each person’s unique strengths and utilizing them to achieve success with their desired goals and outcomes."

I worked in community mental health, school-based therapy services, private practice, and acute and residential care. I am honored to be a part of the Counseling Center team of caring and professional clinicians."

Kara Mullins, MA, LPS

EAP/SAP Professional & Accelerated Resolution Therapist

"I am a Licensed Professional Counselor as well as a National Certified Counselor in the state of West Virginia. I obtained both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Marshall University and I have been working in the mental health field since 2016. I started working in admissions in a psychiatric hospital setting right after college and then went on to become a therapist there. I have also worked in outpatient and private practice settings. I have worked with all walks of life in my time in this field and I am happy to offer individual, family, and couples counseling services. I primarily practice Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques and Accelerated Resolution Therapy amongst other evidence-based approaches to assist patients in developing the skills that they need to live healthy and happy lives. I am eager to help clients work through many life issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, interpersonal conflicts, low self-esteem, work and school stress and many other hardships that arise in our day-to-day lives.

I am working to become a Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP) and am currently taking new clients within the Employee Assistance and Student Assistance Programs to aid employees, their dependents, and students in their times of need. I am incredibly passionate about mental health and being a counselor. I am grateful every day for the opportunity to make a positive impact on people’s lives and help them become their best selves!"

Tenikka Phillips, MA, LPC, NCC, ALPS, AADC, CEAP, RYT200, Accelerated Resolution Trained Therapist

EAP/SAP Coordinator

"I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who has a passion for assisting individuals in navigating life’s difficulties. I consider it an honor to hold space for people to work through some of the most intimate aspects of their lives. I believe mental health support is much more than focusing on a diagnosis. My approach is person centered as I truly focus on meeting people where they are in this moment of their lives and consider all aspects of the person (both the mental & physical) in efforts to assist them in finding the greatest relief as well as inner peace.

I am a Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP) who is passionate about assisting individuals in maintaining successful employment and academic careers as well as providing support to leadership within the corporate and academic settings. As an Advanced Alcohol & Drug Counselor (AADC), I am also passionate about opportunities to assist people in achieving their substance use goals and assisting them in recognizing the roots of their substance use that go well beyond the actual use.

I believe that “issues live in the tissues” therefore I find that my background as a yoga teacher allows for the incorporation of somatic approaches (such as gentle movement and breathing exercises) as an additional resource for those who connect with such strategies. While talk therapy is something I often provide, I also recognize that talk therapy often isn’t enough for many especially when it is hard to put experiences and feelings into words. For this very reason, I have been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) as well as Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) as these approaches have proven to be very effective even when limited words are shared.

I strongly believe that each person is unique and deserves a plan that fits their unique needs. Through collaboration I work with my clients on creating plans that best meet their individual needs. Each client is the expert on their lives, and I simply get the privilege of navigating their therapeutic process."

Stephanie Shaffer, MA, LPC

Staff Counselor

"I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of WV with over 8 years of experience working in both mental health and school settings. Since 2019, I have worked as a Mental Health Therapist for Marshall University and as an Adjunct Professor for Marshall University’s Graduate Counseling Program. I joined the Cabell Huntington Hospital’s Counseling Center in 2024 and am excited to serve others here as a staff counselor. I consider myself grounded in a Cognitive Behavioral Approach but will often utilize other evidence-based practices, such as Solution Focused Counseling, Mindfulness Based Therapy, Impact Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, within sessions to meet each client where they are individually. Everyone’s journey is unique, and counseling is not one size fits all. I have completed extensive training in Mindfulness, Grief, Trauma Informed Care, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).

I proudly offer therapy for individuals, couples, and families suffering from a variety of emotional and behavioral problems including depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and confidence, grief and loss, trauma, interpersonal conflict, stress, poor communication, organization and time management, and a variety of other concerns. I am passionate about mental health, education, and helping others overcome adversity and challenges to grow into the best version of themselves. It is a privilege for me to support and assist clients on this journey and I strongly believe that one must “go through it, to get through it”. Through the years, I have worked with diverse populations and have helped people from various backgrounds to improve their self-perception, strengthen relationships, process hard and negative emotions and thoughts, and ultimately, gain peace of mind. Your story matters and I would love to help you take back control of the pen to write your next chapter with confidence, self-love, and strength."
