Before Birth

Free Classes

Long before the baby's due date, you are invited to sign up for classes to prepare for the arrival of your little one. Our class is an all-day Saturday class that helps parents prepare for the birth process and the arrival of their child. Classes on baby care, breastfeeding, infant CPR and other topics are also available. To find out more about classes, check the Calendar of Events or call 304.526.BABY or register by clicking here babyclasses@chhi.org.

Feeling Strange? Is It Labor?

As your due date approaches, your body naturally begins to prepare itself to give birth. This process may cause feelings or symptoms that are so new and different that you wonder if you are in labor. Our Obstetrical Triage Unit serves as an emergency department for pregnant women who are experiencing a change in condition or obstetrical problems who need to seek medical attention. It is important to seek medical attention if:

  • You feel premature labor pains.
  • Your water breaks.
  • You have vaginal bleeding.
  • You are concerned about yourself.
  • You are concerned about your baby's activity.
  • Your contractions are regular and at least 5 minutes apart.

To be evaluated, go to the Cabell Huntington Hospital Obstetrical Triage Unit on the 3rd floor above the ER. The physician specialists and staff of the Obstetrical Triage Unit will assess your condition and determine the next course of action.
