Mother-Baby Care

Once you have recovered from delivering your baby, you will be moved to a private room in the Mother/Baby Unit, where your baby can stay with you 24 hours a day. For continuity of care, you and your child are cared for together as a couplet by the same nurses.

#CHHBabyLove

In honor of the birth of a new baby, family members will have the opportunity to play a tune, which will be heard throughout the hospital. The tune will last seven seconds and let everyone know what a wonderful event has occurred.

After a baby is born, the family will be asked if they would like to share their news with the rest of the hospital. A rotation of three medleys; Brahm's Lullaby, Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, and Rock-A-Bye Baby, will be heard when a family member activates the tune through the push of a button. The button will be located near the nurse's station in Labor and Delivery.

A new hashtag will also be used to share the news of babies at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

When posting pictures to social media, we are asking our families to use #CHHBabyLove to help us group the baby and family pictures. It will be a great way to celebrate all of our new deliveries in one location.

Visitation

Two designated visitors may accompany the patient for the entirety of their stay. One of these designated visitors may spend the night from 8 p.m. – 8 a.m. For the comfort of our mothers, we ask that no food be brought into the unit without checking with the nurse first. At this time, no siblings are permitted to visit.

Education

During your stay in the Mother/Baby Unit, nurses and other educators will be sharing important information with you about a variety of topics. Below are some resources from the most up-to-date information from the CDC, AAP and other renowned medical websites to help you raise a healthy baby:

Please feel free to ask questions of our experienced staff. They are here to help!
