The goal is to develop and/or restore age-appropriate ambulation and mobility skills and improve deficits related to balance, coordination, strength, range of motion, muscle tone, endurance and conditioning. The Physical Therapy staff works with children with cerebral palsy, spina bifida and muscular dystrophy as well as those recovering from injuries, fractures, sprains and burns. The staff also provides assistance with obtaining appropriate braces and equipment for walking and standing.
Pediatric Occupational Therapy
Pediatric occupational therapy uses functional, task-oriented or play-based activities to address upper extremity weakness, impairments and delays in fine motor skills, visual motor or sensory integration, eye-hand coordination and visual perceptual skills. The focus is on improving limitations that affect the performance of activities of daily living at home, at school and in the community. Desk and school skills are emphasized for children with shortened attention span, learning disabilities and/or other developmental issues. The Occupational Therapy staff also assists with adaptive equipment and splinting as needed.
Pediatric Speech Therapy
Speech therapy services are provided to improve functional communication skills, broaden expressive and receptive language skills, promote proper speech sound production, and help children learn how to control food in the mouth and swallow it.
